Missouri is a constitutional carry state — you don’t need a permit to carry a concealed handgun. But a Missouri Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) permit still matters. It enables you to carry in reciprocating states, exempts you from point-of-sale NICS background checks, and demonstrates to law enforcement that you are a trained, responsible carrier. Missouri Constitutional Carry — What You Should Know

Since August 28, 2017, Missouri law permits most citizens 19 years of age or older to carry a concealed handgun in Missouri without a permit (RSMo 571.030). However, a Missouri CCW permit provides important benefits that constitutional carry alone does not:

• Carry legally in 37+ reciprocating states that honor Missouri permits
• Exempt from NICS background check at point of sale (valid permit substitutes under federal regulations)
• Carry in some locations where permitless carry is restricted
• Demonstrates completion of state-mandated safety training

Note: Constitutional carry does not apply in all locations. Carrying while intoxicated, in posted off-limits locations, or by prohibited persons remains unlawful. This class covers all applicable restrictions in detail.

Missouri Prohibited Carry Locations

A key component of our class is a thorough review of where concealed carry is prohibited in Missouri — whether or not you hold a permit. Our instruction covers all restricted locations under RSMo 571.107, including but not limited to:

What to Bring

A serviceable semi-automatic handgun in good working condition
A serviceable revolver in good working condition (or one will be available to use during qualification)
A minimum of 100 rounds of factory-loaded ammunition for each firearm used (no reloads)
A quality holster that fully covers the trigger guard
Eye protection (safety glasses or shooting glasses)
Hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs — electronic preferred)
Comfortable, closed-toe shoes and appropriate range attire
A valid government-issued photo ID
Notepad and pen for classroom notes

Don’t Have a Revolver?

Missouri law requires live-fire qualification with both a semi-automatic handgun and a revolver (RSMo 571.111). If you do not own a revolver, contact us ahead of class — we can arrange for a range revolver to be available for your qualification at no additional charge. Please call ahead to confirm availability.

After the Class — How to Apply for Your Missouri CCW Permit

Upon successful completion of the class and live-fire qualification, you will receive a Missouri Certificate of Firearms Safety Training Course Completion, signed by our qualified instructor. Here is what to do next:

Gather your documents. You will need your training certificate, a valid Missouri driver’s license or state-issued ID, and any additional documents required by your county sheriff’s office.
Visit your county sheriff’s office in person. CCW permit applications must be submitted in person. For most Jefferson County residents, this means the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Complete the application. Fill out the standardized Missouri CCW application form provided by the sheriff’s office. Provide all required personal information.
Pay the application fee. Fees vary by county — typically around $100. Contact your local sheriff’s office to confirm the current fee before your visit.
Background check. The sheriff will conduct a background investigation. Missouri is a shall-issue state — if you meet all eligibility requirements, your permit will be issued.
Receive your permit. Processing time varies by county. Your CCW permit is valid for 5 years from the last day of the month in which it is issued and is valid statewide.
